How will be the World 2.0
The current Pandemic is disrupting lives across the globe and pushing our habits, practices, and thought process on a different track. In a way disruption has been accepted as a positive change in the professional World, but nowadays in the lives of many it has caused turbulence. Turning physical to digital will change our lives. No crowd in public transport. There is nothing like rush hour on roads or in the market. As it said change is the only constant in the World, our World is changing. Let’s take a look at how the World is reshaping.
Glamour 2.0
The virus does not differentiate between a beautiful or an average-looking face. To protect from the deadly virus one has to cover the mouth and nose with a mask. Glossy lips, a sharp nose gained a lot of attention in the past, now it’s time for the forehead and upper chicks to get a lot of care and pampering as the after COVID effect. There is an addition in the essential purchase – A mask! Some designer mask collections have already arrived in the stores.
Kids 2.0
There will be a new bunch of Do’s and Don'ts for the kids. During the primary phase of schooling, school is considered as a place for getting along with friends. Eight countries including Denmark, China had reopened schools after the Corona outbreak with the new guidelines. Schools are maintaining 6 feet distance in the sitting arrangement. Libraries and play areas are closed. Kids are imposed to follow no sharing of food, or shaking hands in schools. Also researchers have highlighted some ill effects of overexposure of electronic devices on kids eyesight. But now parents have no alternative but to allow kids to attend online classes for hours.
Professionals 2.0
Many things are yet to unfold for the professionals. In this changing World, the plans of personal & professional growth are changing but the responsibilities are static. Most adults are responsible for taking care of two generations: their parents and kids. As of now, 47 million people in the World lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic. All the sectors are facing an economic slowdown, job loss, layoffs in salary, etc. In World 2.0, work demands a change in professional skills, personal habits. This is going to give a lot of challenges to professionals. Physical, mental & emotional immunity is the only way to cope up.
Workplace 2.0
House’s backyard is the new workplace for professionals. Feels great to those who had to travel through crowded public transport, honking traffic and parking problems. Punctuality has been an expected routine of a workplace. Challenges for employers and employees will be to ensure timeliness, work quality and productivity despite working remotely. In short the new World will redefine the work ethics and criteria to judge the professionals.
Senior citizen 2.0
Humans are social animals. The new World is rebuilding our natural habit of socialising. This is really tough for our senior citizens as they have grown up building relationships and harmony by physical networking. At this point of age, they are made to focus on digital interactions. This is the only way for them to be connected with the rest of the society.
Communication and Entertainment 2.0
What lies ahead in the field of communication? Publicity and advertising will focus more on the digital medium. Social media will dominate print and many other publicity mediums. Access to the content will be entirely as per the choice of the Audience. The news industry will have to fight a big battle from Fake news and propaganda generators. Next big question will be, how long will it take cinema halls to attract footfalls again or will they become history soon?
Real Estate 2.0
Working remotely has become the new normal these days. This will affect the choice of housing and commercial properties. Demand for big office space will be replaced by remote working locations. The charm for prime location may fade. Pre-covid World had location as one of the key factors for people. Despite small living areas, employees still wanted to stay closer to their respective offices to save time and energy while commuting to the office. This trend may reverse as well.
Environment 2.0
Recently we celebrated World Environment day. We are hoping for a greener future. Lockdown has improved air quality a bit, but According to IRENA (International Renewable energy agency) this year's carbon emission will be down by 6-7%. Such a small drop in emission would have no measurable effect on the World’s carbon concentration. As per the article, about a 10% drop is a noticeable effect on the rising CO2 concentrations, but even then concentrations would still be rising.
Public Policies 2.0
Some nations were ready than others for handling such a crisis, but for many it was a complete turn around & shaker. GDP, industrial growth, future projects and many things are sidelined by this pandemic. This crisis is resetting the World economy. The economic recovery will take some time. This should be a big learning for governments to re-prioritise their on going agendas & develop better infrastructure for health, medical, education and basic stuff first.
What’s next!
In the History of human civilization, we have always overcome many challenging situations. Soon we will become habitual with this new normal. Till then be grateful for the things we have. Have faith, let’s learn some new skills, utilize the time in innovation and execution of new ideas that can help us build a better future. Be prepared for a robust World for self and next generations. And most important, take very good care of yourself and your loved ones. This shall pass too!
