Problems are temporary, life is precious

We all are going through a tough phase in 2020, one pandemic has caused multiple problems for millions. We are dealing with fear, negativity, job loss, economic slowdown, and a deadly virus.
In this gloomy time, the tendency to give up life is also
raising. From lay man to celebrities many have ended their life. There are stories of heaven and
hell, the good soul will get entry in heaven and the evil spirit will get
punishment in hell after they left the world. Nobody can confirm anything about
these stories of heaven, hell, reincarnation, ghosts, etc.
Forget about the stories let’s talk about realities. The
main cause of suicide attempts is dissatisfaction with whatever we have. Be it
a relationship, be it materialistic wealth, be it fame, Be it a job. When
somebody attempts a suicidal task and succeeds, he or she left the world. What
happened to those, who attempt for such a foolish act but not succeed?
I will tell you a true story, 10 years back I was walking in
the corridor of one the biggest government hospital in India. I was on my way
back to my office after finishing an interview with a doctor. I have seen a
lady crying badly in a wheelchair. She was looking fit but still crying and
looking to a father-daughter duo, where a teenage daughter was helping her
injured father to walk. Soon, the duo disappeared. I could not resist myself
and talk to the crying lady.
She said she is crying because she can never help her
father, who is waiting in the queue to get medicine for her. I offered my help,
I said let me help your father, show me who is your father in the queue, I will
help him in getting the medicines for you.
As per my offering, I reached the old man in the queue and ask for the
prescription, he asked who am I? and why I wanted to help him? I replied to him
that your daughter is very upset by looking at you that’s why I thought to help
you. Now he replied that Don’t help me for the sake of her. She made me stood
here, now why does she want to help me? I left from there and give a helpless
look to her. She was still crying. I made my mind to left, I don’t want to get
indulge in any personal matter of any unknown person. My journalistic curiosity
raised and pushed me back towards her. I went to her once again and asked why
your father is so angry with you. Did you meet some accident? Or you are a
victim of any crime?
Now there was silence. I wanted to listen to her. I am a journalist and I know many people in this hospital, can I help you in any way? She replied, Now, nobody can help me. I tried to give up my life but I was unsuccessful in that thing too. My attempt to suicide had put me in a wheelchair for the last 10 years. I can’t walk, I can’t do anything by myself. I ruined my life and disturbed the entire family.
She continued with her story, she had completed her B.com,
preparing for banking exams, and was happily involved in a relationship with a
known boy. One day while returning from
her coaching classes she got the news that the boy, she was involved with was
engaged with some other girl. She was upset and want to confirm. After a few
days, the news was confirmed, she said I was anxious and one day I leap down
from the terrace of my three-storied house. This resulted in a broken backbone.
I was not dead but living a pathetic life with a broken backbone since than I
am in a wheelchair.
After that incident I spent almost a year in Hospitals, we
tried many parallel therapies to get me back to normal life. I was anxious not
only because of a broken relationship but because of my physical condition too.
My fiancée came to meet me twice but he was also helpless in helping me. Some
of my friends were visiting regularly to make me feel better after sometimes
their life moved ahead, some of them left the city, some of them left the
country, they have got jobs, they got life partners and kids. I was left
behind, alone….
I could have become an asset to the family by cracking the
competitive exam and getting a reputable job. My impulsive mistake made me a
burden.
Now tears were rolling in my eyes too. Her father was back
and listening to our conversation. He also had tearing eyes. He apologized for
his rude behavior. I gave them my number with the promise to help them with
some NGO contacts. The duo went on their way. I also left for my office.
It’s better to face the challenges rather than giving up.
Don’t try to get a permanent solution to a temporary
problem.
